Beatrice Markus

In her self-titled first EP, Beatrice Markus narrates a decisive journey of empowerment through music. The Swedish electropop artist reclaims her place in life through an unapologetic style with energetic, dance-friendly beats and clean production, not unlike Dua Lipa or Rita Ora. The badass factor doesn’t stop at the lyrics: Several of the tracks were mixed and mastered by Jonathan Thorpenberg, frontman to The Unguided (Swedish metalcore/death metal).

It all started with a screaming child at a baptism in 1998 – with a joke about her future as an opera singer. ”I couldn’t even sing to my mom”, Beatrice tells us. ”All I ever needed was someone who told me I didn’t have to fear it.” Flash forward to 2020, and now Beatrice Markus has become in her own words, “a young woman with a lot of authority who cannot be silenced”.

A highlight of the EP, “Summer Romance” depicts a defiant night out in the life of a woman who leaves her ex behind. A lyrical style true to Beatrice’s independent nature that might evoke associations to confident break-up liberation anthems like Dua Lipa’s “New Rules”. There is also room for healing, depicted in tracks like “Fool for You” or “Eternity”.

Beatrice’s journey from her early timid years as a choir girl in a Swedish school to becoming a resilient woman resulted in the release of “Bad From The Start”, her debut single soon after signing with Rexius Records in 2017. The song’s bold and energetic dance beat got a position on iTunes’ Pop Charts and was featured on Popmuzik, one of the largest pop blogs in Sweden.

The release of her second single “Burstin’ Out” followed in 2018. Beatrice’s self-titled first EP will be available in June 2020, including her previous singles and several other empowering sounds with dance- and electropop vibes.
